Will I Set Off Metal Detectors With the GoBlow Pendant?

will-i-set-off-metal-detectors-with-the-goblow-pendant

Honest answer: rarely at airports, occasionally at venues with sensitive walk-through detectors. Here's what to expect.

Built for this? See machined stainless steel material spec (non-ferrous reality).

Airport metal detectors

Modern airport walk-through metal detectors are calibrated to ignore typical jewellery. The pendant + chain (about 25 grams of stainless) is well below the threshold for most airport detectors. You can leave it on.

Exception: millimetre-wave body scanners (the ones you raise your hands in) detect by silhouette, not metal mass. They sometimes flag necklaces. If asked, remove the pendant for a second pass — standard procedure for any necklace.

Venue metal detectors (concerts, clubs, sports)

Most venue detectors are calibrated to ignore standard jewellery. The pendant rarely flags. If it does, security usually asks you to lift the pendant briefly to confirm it's jewellery — done.

Venues that occasionally flag: stadiums with heightened security (Olympic Park, MCG on big game days), some music festival entry points.

Court / government building scanners

Strict. Remove the pendant for the scan, replace it on the other side. Standard for all jewellery.

Why the pendant doesn't usually flag

It's roughly the same metal mass as a watch, a thick chain on its own, or a couple of rings worn together. Detectors expect that level of ambient metal on a person.

The travel strategy

Wear it through security on a 50–55cm chain, under a t-shirt. If asked to remove, drop it in the tray, walk through, collect it. 30-second delay at most.
