How to Store Your Pendant Tool When You're Not Wearing It

You wear it most weekends, but where does it live the rest of the time? Bad storage is the fastest way to scratch a pendant tool. Here's the right way to store yours.

The two main storage failures

  1. Loose in a drawer with other jewellery. Watch crowns, ring edges, and chain clasps will scratch the pendant body within weeks.
  2. Left on the chain, hanging on a hook. The chain twists and pulls the pendant against the wall or hook surface, wearing the finish at the contact point.

The right way: keep the original presentation box

Every GoBlow pendant ships in a matte-black presentation box with a foam insert sized for the pendant. That foam insert is the right home when you're not wearing it. The pendant doesn't move, doesn't contact anything else, and the box is small enough to live in a sock drawer.

Lost the original box? A small jewellery pouch (microfibre or velvet) does the same job. Avoid: zip-lock plastic bags (they trap moisture).

What to do with the chain

Unhook the pendant before you take the chain off. Store the chain laid flat or hung straight (not tangled in a pile) — kinks become weak points. Box chains specifically need to be uncoiled, not bunched.

Where in the house

Avoid:

  • Bathroom. Humidity from showers accelerates oxidation on cheap stainless. machined stainless steel handles it but the box itself can degrade.
  • Direct sunlight on a windowsill. UV slowly degrades PVD coatings over years.
  • Glove box of a car. Heat cycling stresses the threads.

Best: a sock drawer or bedside-table drawer. Stable temperature, dark, dry.

Long-term storage (month+)

If you're storing for more than a month (e.g. away travelling without it):

  1. Clean it first (warm water + mild soap, dry thoroughly). Full care guide.
  2. Dry the threads completely — water trapped in threads can corrode over time even on machined stainless steel.
  3. Store in the original box with foam insert.
