How to Clean and Maintain Your EDC Pendant Tool

A precision pendant tool is a daily carry item — which means it accumulates use. Cacao, fine botanicals, pocket lint, chain oils, skin contact. A clean tool performs better and lasts longer. Here's the maintenance routine we recommend for GoBlow and similar machined stainless steel pendants.

Daily: wipe after use

After every use, wipe the scoop bowl and any internal surfaces with a dry cloth or tissue. This prevents residue buildup and keeps the scoop geometry clean. Takes five seconds.

Weekly (or after heavy use): brush clean

GoBlow ships with a 5-pack of cleaning brushes for a reason. The brush head is sized for the bowl and interior channel. To clean properly:

  1. Open the pendant fully.
  2. Run the brush through the interior channel and bowl in a few short strokes.
  3. Tap the pendant gently over a clean surface to dislodge any debris.
  4. Wipe down the exterior with a soft cloth.

Do this over a piece of white paper if you want to see what's coming out. First clean after a few days of use is usually more than you'd expect.

Monthly (or as needed): full rinse

For a deeper clean, rinse the pendant with warm water and a tiny drop of dish soap. Use the brush to scrub the bowl and channel under running water. Rinse thoroughly, shake out excess water, and leave open to dry completely before closing — moisture trapped in the closure can cause spotting on the interior over time.

machined stainless steel is fully waterproof and rust-resistant. You won't damage it with water. The chain is also stainless. No issues rinsing the whole assembly.

What to avoid

  • Ultrasonic cleaners — Fine for most stainless jewellery, but can degrade PVD finishes over time with repeated use. Skip it.
  • Bleach or harsh solvents — Unnecessary and will attack the finish. Dish soap and water is all you need.
  • Abrasive cloths or scrubbers — Micro-scratches dull PVD finishes. Use a microfibre cloth or a soft cloth only.
  • Storing closed with moisture inside — Dry completely before closing.

The chain

The stainless chain that ships with GoBlow doesn't need much maintenance. A wipe with a damp cloth removes skin oils and general buildup. If you've been wearing it through sweat-heavy events, a rinse and dry does the job.

The closure at the bail has a jump ring — check it periodically to make sure it hasn't worked open. A jeweller or a pair of pliers can close a gap if one develops.

PVD finish care

PVD finishes are more durable than standard plating but not indestructible. A few things extend the life of your finish:

  • Remove the pendant before showering with harsh body wash or shampoo.
  • Store it away from other metal jewellery to avoid contact wear.
  • Polish lightly with a dry microfibre cloth — this restores the surface sheen without abrading it.

With normal use, PVD should last years without visible wear. If you're noticing finish wear early, it's usually from contact with abrasive surfaces — belt buckles, watchcases, other metal jewellery sharing a chain.

Replacing cleaning brushes

The GoBlow cleaning brush pack ships with 5 brushes. They're designed to be replaced — the bristles wear down with use, and a worn brush cleans less effectively. Order a new pack when the current brushes start to show wear or lose their shape.

Clean tool, clean carry. That's the whole routine.
