Sustainability — Why a $150 Pendant Is the Most Sustainable EDC Choice
Sustainability
The most sustainable purchase you can make is the one that lasts a decade.
People talk about sustainability in EDC like it's about packaging or carbon offsets. Mostly it's not. It's about buying one thing and not buying it again.

A $20 plastic alternative lasts a summer. A $150 GoBlow pendant lasts ten years. After year two, the plastic version has cost more, used more material, and shipped more parcels.
What we actually do
- 316L marine-grade stainless steel — the alloy already used in surgical instruments and offshore rigging. Lifetime durability, no plating to flake
- PVD coating — vapour-deposited, harder than the underlying steel. Doesn't peel like cheap plating
- Threaded twist-lock closure — no magnets to fail, no springs to wear, no plastic clasps to snap
- Hypoallergenic across all 5 finishes — safe for all skin types, no nickel allergy returns
- Repairable, not replaceable — engraving aside, every component is serviceable. We re-polish, we re-thread, we re-coat. We don't sell a replacement when we can fix one
What we don't do
- No fast fashion. We don't drop "limited edition" colourways every quarter to manufacture upgrade FOMO
- No greenwashing. We don't have a carbon-neutral logo or a planet-percent partnership. We have a product that lasts
- No plastic in packaging where we can avoid it. Mailer is recyclable cardboard, tissue is FSC paper, pouch is real leather (offcuts from Melbourne saddlery suppliers)
The maths
- Average plastic alternative: A$20, replaced 5x in 10 years = A$100 lifetime cost, 5 parcels shipped
- Premium American competitor: A$300 USD ≈ A$450 AUD plus duty/shipping = A$500 lifetime cost, 1 parcel
- GoBlow: A$150 AUD, 1 parcel, lifetime warranty on threading = A$150 lifetime cost
Sustainability isn't a sticker on the box. It's the maths above.
