What is a Cacao Snuff Spoon? (And Why Carry-Grade Matters)

What separates a good cacao spoon from a cheap one
Most people who start looking for a carry spoon find two categories: cheap Chinese-made alloy pieces (under $30, usually zinc or aluminium), and a small number of premium carry tools made from machined stainless steel. The difference matters more than the price gap suggests.
- Material: machined stainless steel is non-porous, non-reactive, and doesn't oxidise. Cheap alloy spoons can leach metals and leave residue on anything they touch. If you're using a spoon with cacao or botanicals, material quality is non-negotiable.
- Finish durability: PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) finishes — the same process used on premium watches — bond at the molecular level. They don't chip, flake, or rub off. Cheap electroplated pieces look the part for a month, then wear through.
