EDC for Running — The Carry That Doesn't Bounce

Running is the carry test most pendants fail

If a pendant is going to bounce, swing, slap, or pop open, running is where it'll happen. With the right chain length, the right material, and the right closure, the pendant carries through a run as cleanly as it does sitting at a desk.

50cm is the anti-bounce length

At 50cm the pendant sits at mid-sternum. The mass pulls the chain taut, the pendant sits flat against the chest, and at running pace it stays there.

  • 45cm and shorter: Bounces against the collarbone with each stride.
  • 50cm: Mid-sternum. Sits flat. The right answer.
  • 55cm: Starts to swing. Noticeable within a few hundred metres.
  • 60cm+: Full pendulum. Don't run in this length.

Steel is the runner's finish

Running outdoors is sweat, sun, and rain daily. The Steel variant is machined stainless steel brushed stainless with no coating — there's nothing to maintain, nothing to think about. Sweat through it, get caught in the rain, finish at the pool — it's all the same to brushed machined stainless steel. PVD finishes survive the runner's life fine too, but Steel is the variant that genuinely disappears into a training routine.

The threaded closure stays shut

Threaded closures don't pop under repeated shock. Twist-to-lock into the groove and the pendant stays sealed for the duration of the run, no matter the pace or terrain.

Tuck for sprints, leave it out for steady state

For zone 2 and steady-state running, the pendant sits flat at mid-sternum and you forget it's there. For sprints or race situations, tuck it under the shirt — same carry, zero visibility, zero swing. You don't need to take it off. Tuck it if you're racing, leave it out if you're training.

The cooldown

Rinse the pendant under fresh water after a long run if you've sweated heavily — not for the material, which doesn't care, but to stop salt deposits forming in the thread grooves over time. Ten seconds, air-dry. The entire post-run protocol.
