EDC for the Office — How to Carry Without Looking Like You're Carrying
The office carry problem
Office carry is the inverse of festival carry. At a festival the brief is wearability — no pockets, moving for ten hours. At the office, you've got pockets everywhere. The brief flips. Now the question isn't can you wear it, it's can you wear it without anyone clocking what it is.

Most EDC fails this test. Tactical multi-tools, branded keychain bits — it all reads as "outdoorsy guy with hobbies." Fine in a warehouse, weird in a boardroom. The whole point of office carry is that it doesn't announce itself.
Why the pendant wins in professional environments
A pendant on a chain reads as jewellery. Nobody at a Tuesday standup is looking at a steel cylinder against a black tee and thinking tool. They're thinking he wears a chain.
- No tactical branding. No logos screaming across the body. No webbing, no clips.
- Passes every dress code. If a watch passes, this passes. Same category of object.
- Lives under the shirt. Chain visible at the collar, pendant against the chest, nobody the wiser.
- Threaded closure. No magnetic snap that pops open when you lean over the desk.
Which finish for which office culture
- Steel — corporate, legal, finance. Brushed machined stainless steel pairs with a steel chain and a steel watch and disappears.
- Black PVD — creative agencies, tech, design. Black on black on a black tee is the most confident move.
- Gold PVD — sales floors, client-facing finance, hospitality. Reads as confident not flashy.
- Rose Gold — fashion, beauty, anywhere the wardrobe leans soft.
- Rainbow — leave it for the weekend. It's a weekend finish.
The under-the-shirt configuration
Chain at 55–60cm so the pendant sits mid-sternum under a buttoned shirt or crew tee. You don't see it. You feel the weight. When you need it — lunch break, end of day, the bathroom on level 4 — you pull the chain up over the collar, twist the closure, use it, twist it shut, drop it back under.
The pendant doesn't change your outfit. It changes what your outfit is doing.
Coffee at 8, Friday night at 10
The other reason pendant carry works for office life is the seamless transition. You leave the building at 5:30. You're at the bar at 7. You're somewhere louder by 10. Your carry hasn't changed. The same piece that did nothing all day in a meeting is now doing the actual work it was built for, and it's been on you the whole time.
For people who carry more, the Stacks system is the modular version — three threaded vaults that link together or run solo, body-worn or in the bag. Coffee to Friday night without a swap.
